Mills Water was started in 2015 when Dr Meris Mills began freelance consulting. Mills Water offers multiple services related to contaminated land and water.
Dr Meris Mills is a SACNASP certified geologist and earth scientist with more than 15 years' experience in the field of contaminated land and water. Meris obtained a BSc(Hons) degree in Environmental Geology from WITS in 1996, and then spent 2 years working in the mining sector. She returned to academia to complete her MSc in Environmental Geochemistry at UCT in 2001, and followed this up with a PhD focussing on iron geochemistry in groundwater, graduating in 2006. While completing her PhD, Meris worked as a lecturer and laboratory manager on the Environmental Geochemistry MSc program in the Department of Geological Sciences at UCT. She left UCT and joined ERM as an environmental consultant after completing her PhD. After 9 years in the corporate world, Meris decided to become a freelance consultant, where her technical skills in understanding and interpreting geochemical data are put to full use. Her skills in database design and management, data visualisation and GIS have developed over the years to become powerful tools in the interpretation and reporting of geochemical data. More recently, Meris has been involved in the process of SANAS accreditation of the local branch of a major international environmental laboratory and has gained valuable insights into statistical uncertainty associated with environmental sample analysis. Meris is a member of the Groundwater Division of the GSSA and was on the organising committee for the 2017 Groundwater Division conference.
In her spare time, Meris is involved in the sport of orienteering, and is an ardent cricket spectator, especially when her children are playing. Meris loves travelling and photography.
